Airport

Yesterday my class and I went to the Albany International airport and we learned about Million Air which is for private plans and jets there are special places just for the pilots. The food is free and fresh every hour. I also went thru security for the first time in my life it was kind of scary but a cool experience at the same time. I really enjoyed this place it was cool to learn about all the stuff they and to know we have one of the best airports in the country is totally amazing.

Homewood suites

On 3/31/09 my class and I went to Homewood suites, and saw the gorgeous new hotel. The feel of Homewood is welcoming and comforting, walking into the rooms you can feel a sense of home. I loved the fact that the guests are long term because then they can get a sense of who really works there instead of some faker that barely talks and tries to as polite as possible, this way guests can really get to know you.

Visitor Center

on march 23rd my class and I went to the visitors center in Quackenbush Square. It was fun for me because i havent been there since i was little. While we were there we saw a little presentation on Henry Hudson and the history of Albany in the planetarium part. After the little show we walked around and got to look at the exhibit.

Mansion Hill Inn

My class and I went to the Mansion Hill Inn instead of the marriott on 3/17/09. This property is actually owned by my LMP teacher Steve Stofelano. I liked the majority of the property, some rooms more then others. This isnt like the other places my class has visited this is much, much smaller compared to the major chains or large hotels in general. Although this isnt as large it seemed more fun to be at because its much more intimate instead a all together feeling like at the Mansion you get a sense of them really knowing you instead of being a part of the other 300 guests. This little place only has 8 bedrooms and at the most 3 cooks on a daily. Mansion Hill Inn is mostly run by Steve his wife and his daughter although when its busy he tends to get more help in the kitchen.

Empire state plaza

Yesterday(3/10/09) my class and I went to the empire state plaza for tourism action day. This is a day where different hotels come and show off their property. My class and I met the vice president of NYSHTA, Jan Dickinson, overall it was an okay day. it would have been better if it were open although my class didnt do much we got to see how they set up an event like that. for me the best part of the day was the little tour our teacher gave on the bus and in the plaza. the day would have been better if we got to go through and see the different people and hotels.

Bell stand 2/10/09

On Febuary 10th, 2009 I was at Bellstand with Kara and Will. Kara and I polished the bell carts with a copper and brass polish, it smelled horrible. I enjoy bell stand however because it is oriented around just the guest no other part of the hotel can interfere really mainly because the whole thing is to make sure the guest has a pleasent stay. It is important for the bell stand to look nice and the bell carts because thats the first impression on a guest and the last.

AYS ( Feb. 2nd 2009)

This week it was switched up I went back to AYS(at your service) with Stephanie. This time in AYS I got to call around and get the R and A (rate and availibilty). It was interesting to hear the different kinds of people that answered the phones some talked really fast and others kind of slow. It was fun however because I felt kind of important because if they needed the Albany Marriott's R and A I knew what to tell them. I also used the walkie talkie for the first time which was interesting because they had a list of all the different departments that are in the hotel.

laundry day for the past two times((12/9/08-12/30/08))

For the past 3 weeks i have worked in laundry. Everytime I go I expierience the same thing, folding laundry or putting it in the big iron which makes everything nice nd un-crinkley. The last time i was there how ever there was something new. this time around i got to deal with pillows instead of the usual napkins. As much as i enjoy this department it is very repetitive after the first time being there. Well that is my expierience with my days in laundry. check back to see if i still havent been rotated.
