last year at the marriott
On the first day last year I was expected to wear a chef hat, chef coat, apron, name tag, and black shoes. But that was only if I was in the kitchen. The first day I had to peel and cut a 50 pound bag of potatoes. Afterwards I was expected to help other kids that were behind or help clean their mess so that their station was neat. On a different day I learned how to work with a mandolin to cut up like a million cucumbers. Then when I switched departments I had to wear a dress shirt, black pants, black apron, name tag and black shoes. On the first day in the room service department I had to run all over the place to give and take trays from the guests. There was a particular customer that was sick so we had to make him break feast even though it was a lunch rush so that got slowed down. However when we brought the guy his food he gave us each a ten dollar tip and apologized for all the trouble. That is all I remember from last year.
October 14th at the marriott
Ok well yesterday was my first day at the marriott, I worked with a woman who goes by the name of Colleen. She answers phones and puts rerservations into the computer. She has to be very positive and know alot about the hotel. She works mostly in AYS however if any other department needs her she goes and helps out. I asked her what her department was considered and technically even though its front of the room many consider her her own department.
Last year I was mostly in the kitchen and room service it was fun I helped cook and bring food to the customer. I saw the food being prepared and I saw the moment of truth. The challenge I saw yesterday was having people call and not know where they needed to be connected to as in what department they really needed to talk to.
